Business experts across the UK
Matt Buckley is a global cost reduction, procurement and transformation specialist who works with businesses to improve profitability, margin and enterprise value. His focus is the cost side of the P&L, where relatively modest reductions can have a disproportionate effect on profit: on typical mid-market margins, taking 10% out of a cost base can lift net profit by a 35% or more, because savings fall directly to the bottom line. Matt identifies these opportunities and supports clients through to implementation.
Over 15+ years across BP, General Motors and H.M. King Charles III’s Sustainable Markets Initiative, Matt has led transformation across spend portfolios exceeding £7bn. His track record includes 20%+ cost reductions through automation, 50% reductions through offshoring and outsourcing, €9m in negotiated savings on a European capital programme, and $5m a year off a $100m technology base. He has also built procurement functions from scratch, restructured underperforming strategic suppliers, and redesigned operating models to sustain improvement over time.
Matt tends to add most value where margins are under pressure, supplier costs have risen unchallenged over several years, or a business is looking for a practical turnaround rather than a report. He brings established commercial disciplines – reverse cost engineering, competitive tendering, supplier restructuring, benchmarking and process automation – to businesses that have not previously had access to them, with an emphasis on implementation alongside advice. Because the causes of margin leakage are consistent across sectors, the approaches he has applied within large, complex operations translate directly to businesses of all sizes.
Matt holds four degrees and post-graduate diplomas including a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He is a Chartered Member of Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS) and a Fellow and Chartered Manager of the Chartered Management Institute (FCMI CMgr). He currently works with CEOs, CFOs, COOs and investors.
